Private Messaging (PMing) occurs at two different levels in the Standard Edition of the LBD LearningRoom and LBD MeetingRoom.  PMs are not used in the LBD Office.  

There are no PMs allowed from student-to-student. The analogy of this action would be the passing of notes in a face2face class, and is considered to be distracting since the exchange of information between participants is highly regarded and designed to be as transparent as possible. However, in order to deal with individual participants needs, two levels of private messaging were designed into the LBD environments.

  • The first level is designed for staff-to-student where PMs are confined to the room they are in, and archives of PM's are managed at the Site Administrator level.
    • Other staff members in the same room can see this interaction.
  • The second level is designed for staff-to-staff where all staff members can communicate to each other no matter which room they are in.
    • Staff members cannot see a PM from staff-to-student if they are not in the same room as the student.
