"Talking" and "Listening"
in the LBD environment is done with two basically different styles which control the flow of data and interaction with all other
participants.
Style 1 combines "Listen" and "Talk" into one button.
This makes the flow of the LBD environment very fast and
lively. For either a posting of a message, or for listening (refreshing the
screen with all other participants posts) the single button is clicked on
and the participants screen is refreshed (as a default) with all messages
since the last time the participant clicked on the Listen/Talk button.
The participant, however, can control how many posts their
screen receives. A number in the "Scroll Back" box i.e. 25
or 50 will provide the participant with exactly that number of messages.
Counting backwards from the last post on their screen.
Style 2 occurs when the Frame1 button is clicked on.
Style 2 separates the Listen and Talk button.
The separate buttons allow the participant more control over
the pace of interaction.
The screen only refreshes when the Listen button is clicked
on.
When the Talk button is clicked on, the message in the text
message box enters the Room or Office, but the screen is not refreshed.
Data is collected from these actions (clicking on the
buttons) and recorded as "Attending" and "Participating"
and available as immediate feedback available to
all participants
