Meeting Room

The LBD   is ideal for group meetings in corporations, political action groups, and NGOs.  

Since time being used wisely and efficiently is most critical, the real-time LBD environment is the only application on the WEB today that compresses the time spent in face2face group meetings by a factor of two to three.

Reading, writing, and comprehension increases over time in the LBD environment as members learn to communicate with these tools.

A Summary of our research to date identifies the following significant differences between meetings online in the LBD environment and face2face meetings.

The central hub of interaction is the group.

The central hub of interaction is the instructor.

The verbal pattern of interaction is complex hyper-parallel and super synchronous.

The verbal pattern of interaction is simple and serial.

More total verbal messages.

Fewer total verbal messages.

The group entity is akin to a polis, where verbal information remains translucent, unchanged and permanent.

The group entity is a hum buzz of laughter, and noise, where information is opaque, impermanent, and non-verbal.

Small Groups tend to be asymmetrical, and may be less related to facilitator modeling, than to peer modeling.

Small groups tend to be symmetrical, driven by one student responding to the other, and as facilitated.

The moderator can monitor and interact in all the small breakout groups at the same time.

The moderator can only be in one place at a time.

Each participant has the total timeframe of the session available to interact (read, comprehend and comment).

There is a finite amount of time, which is used up as each member participates.

Online group members tend to be more verbal, and send longer comments.

Face2face group members tend towards short utterances.

The group interacts at peak rates of 200-300 wpm. This rate increases with practice, and is dependent on the group’s collective skills. There is no known hard limit to the wpm. possible to exchange.

The group interacts at 130-150 wpm. There is a hard limit to the interaction rate, with little possibility for improvement.

Demands conscious multi-tasking in words, phrases and images.

Allows for unconscious multi-tasking in non-verbal behaviors.

Archives of interaction in computer memory.

The LBD Learning Room is permanent.

The face2face classroom is transitory and disappears when the next class begins.

Group members tend not to lurk online. Shy members tend to speak up more.

Face2face lurkers tend to remain silent. The shy group members do not speak.

All comments made by group members are seen by all group members.

Many comments made from one member to another are not heard by all the members.
